musical faux pas

I put a whole bunch of new cds in my car when I got them a couple of weeks ago. I have been listening to said cds pretty regularly. I'm listening to one, and I'm like oh, right this is Louis XIV. Hey, this is really good. However, it kind of sounds like the faint. Weird. I listen to it some more. I come to the conclusion that this band is a small rip off of the Faint. I also notice that the cd kind of changes direction after the first two songs, suddenly there's girl singing. But I remembered that the Louis XIV does have a girl, so no biggie.

I go to put a cd in my player this morning, and notice that the Louis XIV cd is in it's case. Wait, so what the hell is in my car?! Turns out, I decided that the "rip off of the Faint" band on that cd, oh, just happens to BE THE FAINT. Whoops. Turns out that's my Saddle Creek mix cd and the songs that I thought were oddly faint-ish, where that way because it was the Faint. Doh! But I do have a saving grace, the Louis XIV cd does indeed change directions after a couple of songs, and then add a girl - so at least in that way they are similar. But still.

This totally just shipped. And it's not supposed to be out till tomorrow. Amazon OWNS MY SOUL. Hopefully this album is as good as Transatlanticism - they moved to Atlantic records, and sometimes big records spell death for indie bands. We shall see. I have high hopes.

The Vanished Lyrics

I need a new skin, an enemy to call a friend
Just to lie one more time
To steal my heart away, everything will be okay
Nothing tastes quite like denial

I'm sorry I didn't smile today, my house is on fire again
So bring to me kerosene, my house is on fire again

Kerosene - The Vanished

Remember when we said we'd never part
No purple tears and break each other's heart
Now I'm the fool for trusting this far
'Cause now you are my favorite scar

So tick tock 'bout time for the pain come in
When you said we'd all be friends in the end
I hope you'll find what you need
'Cause I won't be those things in your magazine

Oh, oh, oh, you were my star now
Oh, oh, oh, you're my favorite scar

So wake me when it's over
And tell me when the feeling's gone
I always knew that you'd be my favorite scar

I miss the way that you smiled
I hate it when you cried
When we said goodbye

Yeah, that's what you are, you are my favorite scar

Favorite Scar - The Vanished

The Vanished cd is beyond awesome, I love this guys voice. He's got a lot of range. These are some of the lyrics to the best couple of songs. But I think the cd title is "Favorite Scar" not "The Vanished" or really they are the same cd, just with the songs in a different order. Or something.

New Stuff

From what I've listened to so far:

Beck - Guero: Best cd so far. It's very, very good. I love all the mixes he does, and his voice. I forgot how cool Beck was. Que Ondo Guero is just such a cool song, along with Last Farewell Ride.

NIN/SOAD - both awesome harder rock cds. I love BYOB (SOAD), and some of the NIN songs are really catchy.

The Dandy Warhols - damn I love this guys voice. Not what I remembered listening to them, but his voice is so deep cool that you just love it.

Graham Colton: Very very catchy. Reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on - but so good. I listened to like 3 times and got all the words.

The Used - not so sure I like this album. It's a bit screamy to me, but I've only listened to it once.

The Vanished - good cd, but needs another couple of listenings though.

I listened to some of the others, but not enough yet to make a distinct impression (well other than the Bright Eyes cd is well, typical Bright Eyes.)

I love cover art

The new Sleater-Kinney album cover for "The Woods". Why is cover art so cool? I would love to do that for people, I love inserts of cds. This one is just too neat not to post.

Mix Cds

Are hard to make! Especially if they have a theme. Well, I made a great one today - for David to listen to in his bazillion hour drive to NYC. Here's the line up:

1. Indie Rock N Roll - The Killers
2. Give - Greatness in Tragedy
3. Jezebel - Canvas
4. Hold Me Here - Sly Letter
5. Up Now (Acoustic Mix) - iSOLA
6. Ways & Means - Snow Patrol
7. Still Broken - 5591
8. Stealin’ Off - The Hourly Radio
9. Public Service Announcement - The Bravery
10. Through With You - Maroon5
11. Balance Beam - Blue October
12. American Idiot - Green Day
13. One Thing - Finger Eleven
14. Crips - Ratatat
15. What if I’m Right - Ingram Hill
16. You and I Both - Jason Mraz (live)
17. Kill - Jimmy Eat World
18. Before the World Will End - SouthFM

I think it came out pretty damn good. I just started with the idea of "what are my favorite artists, and what ONE song would I put on there". Believe me, it was hard. Blue has like 15 more songs I could use, and Beginner almost edged out Give for GiT. Kind of a random list, but I listened to it, and thought it was fabulous, so that's all that matters. :) Oh, and since it was for David, I nixed a bunch of artists that we both listen to a lot - this was more stuff he doesn't listen to - or doesn't have that cd (in the case of Jimmy and Green Day).
