I support any kind of research studying diseases especially. One of my biggest complaints about Bush (one of the many) is that he is stomping on research that could save the world (stem cell research). He's also supported funding cuts for research in the natural sciences (such as psychology and sociology). Unfortunately, that attitude that certain research is morally wrong or that the human sciences don't get us anywhere is killer.

For instance, the TX legislature has several senators who are pushing for funding cuts for all things psychology because studying things like "love" is just "stupid". The problem is that many people murder over "love" or other such insanities. Divorce is high in this country. How are we supposed to help if we don't study it?

I'm equally inspired by companies that pick up funding research as hip. Gap currently is working with funding AIDS research and education for Africa. I'm not into the "it's hip" part, but whatever will get people interested I am into. If it creates awareness, so be it. I think the "save the tatas" shirts are hilarious, and a great way to create awareness about breast cancer research. I think more should be done in fields other than cancer, such as MS or muscular dystrophy, two disease we know next to NOTHING about, much less how to cure them.

To be cliche, it's our world. We are the only ones who can save it.
