I think sometimes it's hard to remember why we are all here when ridiculous things happen like at Virgina Tech the other day. You think it's the system failing - oh he didn't get counseling or oh nobody saw the signs.

Really it's us failing.

I've often had people ask me why I try so hard for people that don't give back - and really I ask myself the same things. Sometimes you don't know when you are going to be that person that makes someone stop and think - hey somebody does care. It's easy to feel isolated, but it's easier for all of us just to be nicer to each other.

I guess this is also fueled by reading 18 papers on attitudes and racism, and thinking, why should this research even still be going on? Haven't we gotten over all this already? But any search of the headlines will show you we haven't. It's just switched races or groups. It's not ok to be prejudiced against African Americans but it is against Homosexuals? Am I the only one who sees the tragic flaw in this design?

Really, we've just got to step up and realized that people are people. Some are good, some are bad, but that is created by us, not genetics.
